Membership Pathways and Criteria for Entry into the College of Applied Biology
The College of Applied Biology licenses individuals who work in the field of applied biology. Applied biological science is defined in the College of Applied Biology Act as "...a biological science, including botany, zoology, ecology, biochemistry and microbiology, if the biological science is applied to the management, use, conservation, protection, restoration, or enhancement of
(a) aquatic or terrestrial ecosystems, or
(b) biological resources within these ecosystems;"
There are 5 categories of membership for entry into the College of Applied Biology.
- Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio.),
- Registered Biology Technologist (R.B.Tech.),
- Biologist in Training (B.I.T.),
- Trainee (R.B.Tech.) and
- Student (St.).

A combination of academic background, work experience and reporting will be used in the evaluation of persons requesting membership as a Registered Professional Biologist and as a Registered Biology Technologist in the College of Applied Biology. Academic criteria must be met to gain membership as a Biologist in Training or a Trainee(RBTech). For those who wish to gain membership as a Student member you must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 courses per semester in a program leading to membership in the College. Applications cannot be forwarded to the Credentials Committee for assessment until all required information has been received.
