Proposed New Legislation: The Professional Governance Act

On October 22, the Government of BC tabled new legislation that could significantly change how applied biology professionals are regulated. Further to the independent report commissioned by the government in fall 2017, this enabling legislation will establish a new centralized Office focused on governance. The Province also released an Intentions Paper on October 31.  If the new legislation is passed, changes will include merit-based elections; increased consistency across statutory functions, committees and Councils; embedding Code of Ethics principles in legislation; regulation of firms; and granting applied biology professionals Right to Practice.
