British Columbia has around 36 bumble bee species and identification to species can be challenging. This course will provide instruction on Bumble Bee (Bombus) taxonomy and identification and will be accomplished in a classroom setting through a combination of lectures, problem solving activities, and microscopy. The goal is to provide participants with the skills to conduct research, monitor, and assess these taxa.
Depending on student interests, additional topics will be discussed, such as sampling, data collection, and specimen preservation.
