College of Applied Biology Council announces new Executive Director

The College of Applied Biology is pleased to announce that Christine Houghton will be joining the College as Executive Director effective February 7, 2017.

“We are very excited that Christine is joining the College,” said Dr. Vanessa Craig, the College Council President. “Her leadership abilities, strategic insight, and management skills developed while working in government and for non-profits will be an asset. Her energy and enthusiasm is invigorating; I look forward to working with her.”

Christine brings to the College extensive experience as an advisor on strategic policy, governance, legislation, intergovernmental relations, and communications. Her work includes the successful delivery of critical environmental programs, complex policy and legislative packages, and effective management of resources.

Over the past four years Christine worked as a consultant on a variety of projects, including the Capital Regional District’s wastewater treatment project and, most recently, as an Environmental Management Advisor in Calabar, Nigeria. Prior to becoming a consultant, Christine spent over fifteen years working for the Government of British Columbia’s Ministry of Environment. In that capacity, she led the revision of many results-based regulations and policies for the Environmental Protection Division before becoming the Executive Director of Visitor Services for BC Parks.

Originally from Manitoba, Christine has lived, worked, and studied in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan prior to coming to British Columbia in 1999.
