College Statement Regarding Professional Reliance Review
As the regulator of registered biology professionals in BC, the College of Applied Biology (the College) welcomes the professional reliance review initiated by the provincial government. As with all regulated professional organizations, the College's primary mandates are to set standards for entry into the profession, to hold our members accountable for their conduct and practice, and to safeguard the public interest. It is a responsibility that we take seriously.
To ensure that the public has confidence that natural resource management is based on meaningful scientific standards, there must be trust in the government who sets the requirements, trust in professionals in both the private and public sectors, and trust in the regulating body overseeing professional practice and conduct.
British Columbia is a leader in ensuring that professional biologists are working alongside their professional partners (Foresters, Engineers, Agrologists, Technologists) to protect the public trust and ensure that sound science is used in decision-making. The College is fully committed to the professional accountability of all our members, and we welcome the opportunity to work with government and the legislature to identify ways to improve the current system.
