Linda Michaluk Scholarship: Application Deadline January 31, 2018

The College of Applied Biology (the College) is accepting applications for the Linda Michaluk Scholarship Fund (LMSF). The Linda Michaluk Scholarship Fund was established to recognize the founding Executive Director of the College of Applied Biology, Linda Michaluk, RPBio. Linda, who retired in 2012, was instrumental in the process that created the College. In recognition of her exemplary service to the profession, the College created the Linda Michaluk Scholarship Fund. The LMSF demonstrates the College’s commitment to further the development and implementation of effective science and policy to better support the practice of applied biology.

The Linda Michaluk Scholarship (LMS) of $2,500 is awarded annually to successful candidates. Scholarship applicants must be enrolled full-time in a Canadian graduate program of study related to the advancement of science-informed decision making, or to the development of laws and regulations that are relevant to natural resource management. Scholarship recipients are expected to provide a copy of a thesis, or research report, or scientific publication related to natural resource management, science, or policy at the conclusion of their program.

The 2017 recipient Laramie Ferguson, a graduate student at Simon Fraser University, has used the award as a means to expand her academic and field experience. “In late spring, I was able to accompany my research lab to Haida Gwaii for a Forest Ecology and Management course, where I witnessed a unique system of resource management and governance,” said Laramie. “I am so honoured and grateful to have been the 2017 beneficiary of incredible support, and I look forward to sharing my findings at the 2018 College of Applied Biology AGM and Conference."
