Professional Governance Act Update: First Regulations activated

On May 21, the first regulations of the Professional Governance Act were activated by Order in Council. Specifically, the regulation that requires a merit-based process to be applied for Council elections has come into effect and will be implemented for the 2020 election.

The regulation also provides further direction on the responsibilities of the Nomination Committee and standardizes its functions across the five (5) natural resource professional regulators.

The College Council will be reviewing and approving the Terms of Reference for the nominations committee during the June Council meeting. The Council will also be revising elements of the College Rules regarding elections to align them with the regulation.

Another Order in Council dated May 21, 2019 places the College of Applied Biology Act into the Ministry of Attorney General as of June 1, 2019. It is important to note that with the exception of the change in Council elections, the College will continue to operate under our current Act.

Questions regarding the Professional Governance Act or its regulations should be directed to College CEO Christine Houghton.
