Province of BC - commencement on July 17, 2015 of Climate Leadership Plan engagement process
Please see the following message from the Climate Action Secretariat for how you can participate in the formation of BC's new climate policies by providing comments and suggestions.
I am writing to let you know that the Ministry of Environment started its engagement process today regarding development of the Climate Leadership Plan and to ask you to invite your colleagues and stakeholders to participate.
The Province of B.C. is preparing the Climate Leadership Plan to ensure it remains on the path to achieving 2020 and 2050 emissions targets.
British Columbians will have two opportunities over the next six months to participate in shaping B.C.’s new climate policies.
The first opportunity is to comment on a Discussion Paper posted on the Ministry of Environment’s website through an online survey (engage.gov.bc.ca/climateleadership/) from July 17th to August 17th, 2015. Governments, First Nations, organizations and businesses are also encouraged to provide separate submissions in addition to the survey to [email protected].
In May, government appointed a Climate Leadership Team of leaders from business, academia, environmental communities, First Nations and local governments. They will provide advice and recommendations to government on the Climate Leadership Plan. Public feedback from the discussion paper process will inform their ongoing work.
After reviewing discussion paper submissions and the Climate Leadership Team’s recommendations, government will release a draft Climate Leadership Plan in December, containing more detail on the policies, opportunities and trade-offs government is considering for the final plan in March.
Your support is appreciated, as input from all stakeholders is very important to the success of the Climate Leadership Plan. Please contact me if you require further information.
